Hans P. Reiser

Hans P. Reiser is a Full Professor (W3) and holds the Chair of Digital Security at the University of Passau, Germany. He also maintains an affiliation with the Computer Science Department at Reykjavik University, Iceland, and the Frostbyte Cybersecurity Research Centre.

He earned his Diploma (Dipl.-Inf., equivalent to an M.Sc.) degree in Computer Science from the University of Erlangen–Nuremberg and received his PhD (Dr. rer. nat.) in fault-tolerant distributed systems from Ulm University.

Earlier in his career, he held Assistant Professor positions at the University of Lisbon, Portugal, and the University of Passau, Germany. He also spent a semester as a Visiting Professor at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, USA, and another semester as a Visiting Full Professor at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany. He joined Reykjavik University in January 2022 and served as an Associate Professor before returning to the University of Passau in July 2026.

Hans P. Reiser’s research focuses on the security, reliability and resilience of distributed systems.
